Progress Continues on Glen Burney Trailhead Revitalization

The Village Foundation of Blowing Rock is pleased to share continued progress on the planned revitalization of the Glen Burney Trailhead at Annie Cannon Memorial Garden and Park.

Following a presentation of the project plans to the Blowing Rock Town Council, the Foundation received support to move forward with the project. The Town has been an important partner throughout the process, including serving as the municipal applicant for a State of North Carolina matching grant that will help fund trail and site improvements. Grant funding has been awarded, marking an important milestone as the project moves closer to construction.

The project is now progressing through the final engineering, environmental review and planning stages. If engineering, bidding and other necessary steps proceed as anticipated, groundbreaking could take place as early as spring 2027.

Plans call for thoughtful improvements to the existing Annie Cannon Memorial Garden and park while creating a more welcoming and visible gateway to the Glen Burney Trail. Proposed improvements include a pavilion with picnic tables and restrooms, a terraced green space offering natural amphitheater-style seating, enhanced landscaping, and improved signage and visibility for the trailhead from the street.

The Village Foundation continues to work toward raising the last of matching funds necessary to bring the project to life. A number of sponsorship opportunities remain available at varying levels, including a significant naming opportunity for the planned pavilion.
